Design Wars Garment Challenge

Meet Emily of Em’s Corner! She is a busy woman with 4 kids and various jobs in the crochet world. I got to ask her a few questions about her career and family.
You can find her online on Ravelry and Facebook:
When my 3rd child, my only girl, was born, I wanted to be able to make some adorable hats and headbands for her. My sister was over one day. She had been knitting for a few years and had recently learned to crochet. She suggested I skip the knitting and go for crochet. She showed me the basic stitches and then I learned the rest from YouTube. I was immediately hooked and tried to learn as much as I could, as fast as I could. I’ve been crocheting every day since. That was 6 years ago.
I really enjoy creating patterns for my personal business, Em’s Corner, but I have also been working for Happilyhooked.com as the Assistant Editor. That involves a lot of tech-editing pattern submissions which is a passion of mine. I also curate The Pattern Pack, a Happily Hooked publication for Gold members. I spend several hours a week creating teaching materials for crochet and crochet business management and I do product photography for Happily Hooked Magazine and Happy Crochet Hooks.
I’m a big fan of MarlyBird but I’d also just love to meet my favorite crochet designers that I follow on facebook, Jennifer Pionk, Sincerely Pam, Jennifer Dougherty, Lilla Bjorn Crochet, Salena Baca, Liz McQueen, Danyel Pink, and Crystal Bucholz. I’ve followed their work since most of them began publishing, so I feel like I know them well, even though we’ve never met in person.
I pretty much crochet everywhere, doctor’s offices, golf practice, the mall, church, and even while nursing a baby!
I really love my G (4.0mm) hook. I love working with lightweight yarns, fingering, sport, and DK, and a G hook and lightweight yarn makes the perfect crochet fabric.
I love coral and aqua in the summer because it is so cheery and Navy and Willow (beige from KnitPicks) in the winter because it goes with everything in my closet.
I’m not a big fan of anything that requires sewing on pieces or parts although I am getting better. I like to crochet, not sew…
My second passion is photography. I love to take photos. I am in an ongoing photography class and am always learning new things. Photography is a beautiful art form and I love that it also allows me to photograph my crochet work to really make it shine.
I have a great family. My husband is wonderful and we have 4 kids, 3 boys and 1 girl. I love that I can be passionate about my career and still work from home with the people that I love surrounding me. And I also like that I can go to work in my pajamas 😉 My designs are inspired by my hubby and kids, but sometimes, I just find a yarn that intrigues me and I have to make something perfect with it.
