Lion Brand 24/7 Yarn Review

24:7 Cotton Yarn Review

Since I live in a fairly warm climate, I have always been drawn to cotton and cotton blend yarns, since they breathe a little better than most wools and acrylics. I also love the excellent stitch definition achieved while working with cotton. However, cotton yarns tend to be stiffer and cause me some wrist pain. The color availability is also sometimes lacking among most cotton lines. I think I have tried almost every cotton yarn looking for the perfect blend of breathability, stitch definition, strength, softness, and color. Really, I don’t think I am asking for too much, am I?

Luckily, Lion Brand has released a brand new line of 100% cotton, 24/7 Cotton! It is a mercerized, worsted weight yarn that somehow has managed to meet my strict list of requirements. The first thing that I noticed was the incredibly bright and vibrant color palette that is available. 24/7 Cotton comes in 24 shades! The colors are deep and rich, thanks to the mercerization process, and accented with some versitile neutrals. Mercerized cotton also increases strength, and smoothness. 24/7 Cotton is on the thinner side of worsted weight but has amazing strength. I was also really surprised by the softness of this yarn. I went through 16 balls of this yarn and never once noticed any wrist pain.

Each 3.5 oz ball contains 186 yards. Because of the strength of this yarn, I would highly recommend it for bags, totes, home decor and accessories. It would be fabulous as a sunhat too!

Here is pattern that I tried with this yarn:

Geometric Adult Coloring Book Tote by Em’s Corner, this is a great pattern to show off the range of colors and I needed a tote bag for my coloring books!

This is great to know! My hubby is allergic to wool and acrylic, so cotton yarns are a must. But like you, I get wrist problems. I’ll definitely check out the new Lion Brand yarn for a sweater I want to crochet him. Thanks!

I was so happy to read this review! I do want to try this yarn, but I have a question that I’m hoping you can answer. 🙂 I have had problems in the past with dye bleed, especially with reds, with cotton yarn. Have you used the red in this yarn? If so, have you had the opportunity to check for any dye bleed?

I have made several projects with this yarn, however, I have not put any of them through the wash. I used the hot pink and haven’t noticed any dye bleed, but without washing, it is hard for me to say for certain. Lion Brand advertises this on the 24/7 Cotton page
Product Care Instructions: Items made from this yarn may be laundered through the use of hottest available water, detergent or soap, agitation, and a machine designed for this purpose. A machine dryer may be regularly used at the hottest available temperature setting.
I may try making a small item, such as a hat and putting it through the wash to test this!
