Knit Picks Swish DK Yarn Review

Once spring arrives, I love to dive into my stash of DK yarn! Lightweight yarn is perfect to take me through the spring and summer and I’ve just found a new favorite DK weight, Knit Picks Swish DK. At first glance, the array of colors is stunning and perfect for all seasons. There are brights and pastels, warm autumn shades, and soft neutrals.20160328-DSC_0328

Swish DK is 100% super wash merino wool and comes in 50 gram balls of 123 yards. Each ball is regular priced at $4.69. Easy care is a must for me, since I have a bunch of kids, and this merino wool is machine washable with cool water. Although it is soft to begin with, Swish DK softens up even more with each wash. Laying flat to dry is recommended.

With such easy care, Swish DK can be used for a wide variety of projects. With 40 colors, this yarn is perfect for color work and fair isle projects. Scarves, hats, mittens, children’s clothing, and blankets are just some of the possible uses. It was soft enough even to use for baby items and it had great stitch definition.

The recommended hook size ranges from 4.5mm (size 7 hook) to 5.5mm (I hook). I was very comfortable using my 5.0mm H hook.

The project that I chose to make with Knit Picks Swish DK was the Spring Waves Cowl by Em’s Corner. With three springy colors, it really highlighted the bright colors available. It is light enough to be perfect for cool spring evenings, yet warm enough to be used even in the cooler months.
