Designer Spotlight: Meet Kate from Crafting Friends
July 21st, 2015
A couple months ago I received a custom order request from a photographer for a very plush cocoon. I headed to Jo-Ann’s (one of my favorite craft stores) to check out the gigantic yarn section. When I came across Bernat’s Softee Chunky Yarn I knew it would be the perfect fit. This yarn is so squishy and soft for a newborn baby. Actually, I wouldn’t mind a blanket in this yarn for myself…hmmm I might just have to do that…..
Make a Magic Ring.
Round 1: Ch 1, 7 sc in magic ring, join with a sl st in the 1st sc, pull tight. – 7 sts
Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. – 14 sts
Round 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. – 21 sts
Round 4: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. – 28 sts
Round 5: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. – 35 sts
Round 6: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. – 42 sts
Rounds 7-27: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st and each st around, join. – 42 sts
Or until the cocoon measures 20 inches long.
Finish off. Weave in ends.
You can roll the top down to make it fit any baby!
