Get Ready for Cooler Weather with these Bulky Hats

This fluffy puff ball beanie is a fun, easy, and cuddly photography prop.
Whip one up in your favorite worsted weight yarn, or try a fun art yarn for a cool effect.
*This hat is a photography prop ONLY. The long tail and fluffy pom pom are a choking hazard. Responsible Adult Supervision Required.
Materials: I/9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook, yarn needle, scissors
Yarn: 100 yards Worsted Weight Yarn.
Sample shown using Red Heart Plush Baby Yarn.
Sizes: Newborn and 3 Months
Gauge: 7 DC and 4 rounds = 2”
Stitch Guide: CH – chain, DC – double crochet, HDC – half double crochet, SC – single crochet, SL ST – slip stitch, ST – stitch
Notes
Start with magic ring.
Round 1: CH 2, 11 (12) DC in ring, join to top of first DC (here and throughout).
Round 2: CH 2, 2 DC in each DC around, join. [22 (24) DC]
Round 3: CH 2, (1 DC in next, 2 DC in next) around, join. [33 (36) DC]
Round 4: CH 2, (1 DC in next 2, 2 DC in next) around, join. [44 (48) DC]
Rounds 5 – 9: CH 2, DC in each DC around, join. [44 (48) DC]
Round 10: CH 1, SC (HDC) in each DC around, join and fasten off. [44 SC (48 HDC)]
Use a double strand of yarn. Leaving a 6” tail, CH 60 (or more), then fasten off leaving a 6” tail.
Use a pom pom maker, cardboard or your fingers to create a large, fluffy pom pom.
Using needle, thread one end of the tail down through the top-center of the hat and secure it to the inside. Carefully thread the other end of the tail through the center of the pom pom and tie it in a knot to secure. Put hat on baby & gently place the pom pom into desired position.
