5 Adorable Sundresses for the Kids this Summer
June 15th, 2015
It gets really (I mean really!) hot where I live, so my yarn stash is divided into two separate stashes, my winter yarn and my summer yarn. I really enjoy working with cotton and cotton blends in the summer time because they breathe easier against the skin, but some cottons can be stiff to work with, and they usually give me a lot of wrist pain as well. So after years of testing every cotton yarn on the market, I want to share with you my top 5 yarns for summer!
My favorites are Bernat Cotton-ish, Knit Picks Shine Worsted, Knit Picks Shine Sport, Knit Picky Comfy Fingering, and Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton. These are the best of the best! Let’s chat about which might be best for your project.
This is a DK weight yarn although it is on the thinner side of DK. I usually can interchange Cotton-ish with most sport weight yarns. This yarn contains 55% Cotton/45% Acrylic with a put up of 70g/282 yds. The cotton blend makes this yarn really soft to work with.My favorite feature, however is the color palette. I absolutely love the rainbow hues and the complementary neutrals. Other brands have more colors but these are so irresistible!
If you’re looking for a project to try Bernat Cotton-ish take a look at Em’s Corner’s Chevron Lace Tunic.Next on this list is Knit Picks Shine. It comes in two weights, Worsted and Sport and this is my go-to yarn in summer. It is perfect for baby clothes or booties. The yarn is made from 60% Pima Cotton and 40% Modal Natural Beech Wood Fiber. This is an extremely soft, sturdy, AND anti-piling yarn that comes in 31 colors. It is easy care, making it perfect for babies and kids. Each 50 gram ball contains 110 yards of sport weight and 70 yards of worsted weight.
What are you going to make with it? Try this FREE pattern, the Citrus Stripe Blanket by Felted Button!
The yarn make-up is 75% Pima Cotton, 25% Acrylic and it comes in some beautiful muted colors. Each 50 gram ball contains 218 yards. It’s light and easy care and will keep you crocheting all summer long. What are you going to make? Try this incredibly gorgeous Zigfinity Scarf by CrocheTrend.
This is a worsted weight mercerized cotton with some very vivid colors. The mercerization process creates a yarn that is incredible sturdy and strong, but still very soft to work with, especially for a 100% cotton yarn. It is easy care and is perfect for bags and totes. Unfortunately, it is a little hard to come by. I have seen it on Amazon.com, Walmart.com and of course, on the Lion Brand website.
What will you make with it? How about the Adult Coloring Book Tote from Em’s Corner.
OK! So let me know what you plan on making this summer in the comments. What is your favorite summer yarn?
Happy Crocheting!
